Joshua Hong pivots to solo projects as Seventeen pauses group work

Suiting up for a UNESCO speech in Paris before shifting into fashion week appearances, Joshua Hong is mapping out a solo path. While Seventeen, the 13-member K-pop powerhouse, enters a planned hiatus to accommodate mandatory military service, the group's American member is signaling that his own career is only accelerating.

Hong’s recent international schedule marks his first public moves since the band announced its pause. With roughly half of the members entering military service, the group is bracing for a quiet period until their projected 2028 comeback. However, Hong, one of the group's primary English speakers, remains a focal point for the agency, Pledis Entertainment, as he explores ventures in Hollywood and the fashion industry.

During his time in Paris, Hong emphasized his commitment to youth initiatives, noting that his collaboration with UNESCO offers a creative outlet beyond the stage. He views this transition as an opportunity for personal growth as an artist. While Hong steps into these new roles, the rest of the group is maintaining a fragmented presence: Vernon and The8 recently launched their V8 mini-album, while vocalists Seungkwan and DK continue their Serenade concert tour. Meanwhile, the youngest member, Dino, prepares for an August 3 debut under his solo alter ego, Picheolin.
