After a Google Layoff, Trinette Faint Chose Creativity Over Corporate

Conflict: When Trinette Faint was let go from her executive business partner role at Google in November 2024, she faced a choice between the familiar climb of the tech ladder and a dormant ambition to pursue the arts. She chose the latter, trading a stable salary for an unpredictable career in filmmaking.

The transition was far from seamless. Faint, 54, endured a series of personal hurdles, including the death of her senior dog, Avery, and knee surgery immediately following her departure from Google. While the company cited performance issues for her termination—a claim Faint disputes—she viewed the timing as a strange, life-altering signal. She realized her situation mirrored that of Peri, a character in a television script she had written months earlier, who finds liberation after being fired from a tech job. Embracing this parallel, Faint abandoned the demoralizing cycle of applying for traditional corporate roles and pivoted to her creative work.

Her new path has proved both financially challenging and professionally validating. She funded her transition using severance, savings, and occasional contract work, including a role with Udacity. Despite the instability, Faint has found significant momentum in the entertainment industry. She produced and starred in the short film "Party Pants," which earned her a best actress award at the Berlin Indie Film Festival, and she is currently developing a new TV pilot with producers in Paris and Los Angeles. Now based in Montpellier, France, Faint insists that the risk has been worth the reward, proving that a career pivot can be more than just a temporary gap—it can be a permanent redirection toward long-held dreams.
