Chime Raises Revenue Outlook as CFO Matt Newcomb Departs

A surge in demand for digital banking services has pushed Chime to upgrade its 2026 revenue forecast, significantly outpacing Wall Street expectations. The announcement coincides with the sudden exit of longtime CFO Matt Newcomb, who concludes his decade-long tenure just over a year after the company’s public market debut.

Chime now anticipates revenue growth between 25% and 26% for 2026, surpassing the 22.7% growth previously modeled by analysts. This optimism follows a strong second quarter where revenue climbed 27% to $670 million, comfortably beating the $640.4 million consensus estimate. CEO Chris Britt attributed the performance to the resilience of the U.S. consumer across various income brackets, bolstered by a 20% increase in active members, now totaling 10.4 million.

Financial operations remain in transition as Newcomb steps down later this week, with company president Mark Troughton stepping into the role on an interim basis. Despite the growth, the fintech firm is recalibrating its workforce, recently announcing a 10% staff reduction aimed at leveraging AI-driven efficiencies. Having secured its second consecutive profitable quarter with $28 million in net income, the company is doubling down on its expansion into investing and membership tiers to maintain its momentum.
