ABN Amro Raises Annual Earnings Outlook After Strong Quarter

Dutch lender ABN Amro has lifted its full-year guidance for net interest income to 6.8 billion euros, up from a previous target of 6.4 billion. The upward revision follows a second-quarter performance that surpassed analyst expectations, driven by higher central bank interest rates that continue to bolster core lending profitability.

The bank reported commercial net income of 1.70 billion euros for the quarter, comfortably beating the 1.64 billion euro median forecast compiled by the company. This shift completes a trend among major Benelux banks, which have all recently adjusted their income projections in response to a more favorable interest rate environment.

CEO Marguerite Bérard credited the resilience of the Dutch economy, noting steady household spending and improving consumer confidence. However, she warned that significant uncertainty persists as the full inflationary effects of the energy shock have yet to materialize. The bank’s operational efficiency has also shown marked improvement, with the cost-to-income ratio dropping to 53.7% at the end of June. This figure marks a sharp decline from 61.5% a year prior, placing the firm ahead of its 2028 target of keeping the ratio below 55%. These results represent a pivot for the lender, which has spent years grappling with efficiency challenges prior to the job cuts and strategic shifts announced by Bérard in November 2025.
