Apollo Global Management Reports Data Breach Following Targeted Cyberattack

Between July 6 and July 10, hackers infiltrated cloud platforms at Apollo Global Management, compromising sensitive personal records including Social Security numbers and home addresses. The New York-based asset manager joins a growing list of financial firms recently targeted by attackers using low-tech, voice-based social engineering tactics.

The unauthorized access was discovered after the firm became caught in a wider campaign targeting prominent U.S. financial institutions. Investigators determined that the stolen data includes dates of birth, contact information, and names of affected individuals. While the firm has engaged forensic cybersecurity experts and notified law enforcement, the investigation remains active.

Matthew Breitfelder, Apollo’s Head of Human Capital, confirmed that the company is providing complimentary identity protection and credit monitoring services to those impacted. Although the firm has yet to find evidence that the stolen information has been misused for fraud or leaked publicly, the incident highlights the persistent vulnerability of financial entities to telephone-based phishing. These tactics, which rely on human interaction rather than complex code, continue to bypass modern security software. Similar breaches have recently disrupted operations at major corporations, including Uber Freight and Levi Strauss, underscoring the broad scope of this criminal operation.
