The surge follows Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s recent efforts to stabilize the bond market, which inadvertently weakened the dollar and intensified market anxiety. Investors have pivoted toward the so-called debasement trade, viewing the Treasury’s plan to buy back long-dated bonds as a signal that policymakers will cap long-end yields at the expense of currency stability. This environment has historically favored assets like gold and bitcoin, which are often used to hedge against government intervention.
Tim Sun of HashKey Group noted that Bessent’s messaging suggests a low tolerance for rising yields ahead of the midterm elections, creating a supportive landscape for digital assets. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has pushed Congress for clearer regulatory frameworks for the sector, adding further momentum to the 16% gain recorded over the past week. IG market analyst Tony Sycamore noted that if current levels hold, the asset could see a trajectory toward the $95,000 to $100,000 range, provided the scramble into physical and digital alternatives continues to accelerate.
