Jennifer Garner on the financial reality of her post-divorce pivot

“I panicked when I was first out of my marriage and realized I had taken such a step back in my work,” Jennifer Garner told entrepreneur Emma Grede. The actor’s 2018 divorce from Ben Affleck forced a sharp realization about her financial independence and the fleeting nature of Hollywood earning power.

Garner admitted that despite her decades-long acting career, she had never prioritized long-term financial strategy until her personal life shifted. Facing the responsibility of supporting her children without a massive settlement, she began working with her manager, Nicole King, to identify revenue streams that balanced professional ambition with motherhood. This shift moved her focus from purely creative pursuits toward sustainable business ventures, marking a departure from her previous career management style.

Her pivot centered on Once Upon a Farm, the organic food company she co-founded in 2017. While initially a refrigerated baby-food startup, the brand scaled into a national powerhouse under her public-facing leadership. The bet proved lucrative: the company went public in February 2026, reporting second-quarter net sales of $85.4 million—a 42% increase year-over-year. With household penetration climbing to 6.2%, the enterprise has provided the professional stability Garner feared she might lose in an industry that often penalizes aging actresses. The business success has effectively secured her financial future, allowing her to curate her acting roles, such as her recent work in Peacock's "Five Star Weekend," on her own terms.
