Cayman Motoring Federation Launches Inaugural Auto Slalom League

Eight drivers navigated a cone-marked course at the Fosters Airport overflow parking lot on 12 April, marking the debut of the Cayman Motoring Federation’s National Auto Slalom League. Eight drivers navigated a cone-marked course at the Fosters Airport overflow parking lot on 12 April, marking the debut of the Cayman Motoring Federation’s National Auto Slalom League. The six-round series prioritizes precision and vehicle handling over raw speed, establishing a structured entry point for grassroots motorsport in the Cayman Islands.

The inaugural event tested driver consistency through a format requiring individual timed runs, where clipping a cone results in penalties. Participants competed across Stock and Modified categories, with rankings determined by the best two of three attempts. Damean (Max) Simpson secured the Stock class victory with an 85.86-second performance in a BMW E90, while Rory Scheepers led the Modified group, clocking 69.88 in a Volkswagen GTI. Adis Kevorkian set the day's fastest single lap at 33.26 seconds.

CMF president Jane Scaletta framed the league as a vital development tool for drivers aged 17 and older. By aligning events with Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile regulations and utilizing trained marshals, the federation aims to foster a sustainable, secure environment for local racing. The series continues with five additional rounds scheduled through October, concluding with an awards ceremony in December that will highlight emerging talent and female competitors.
