Cayman Aquatics Secures Record Medal Haul in Martinique

Forty athletes from the Cayman Islands returned from the 2026 CARIFTA Aquatics Championships with 49 medals, a significant leap from the 34 claimed last year. The team's performance, spanning swimming, artistic swimming, and open water events, solidified their regional standing despite a lack of local 50-metre training facilities.

The haul included 39 swimming medals, eight in artistic swimming, and two in open water. Aadhyaan Agarwal led the team’s point tally with 61 points, securing one gold, four silver, and two bronze medals. Sierrah Broadbelt also stood out, contributing four gold and two silver medals to the final count. The competition, which concluded on 8 April in Martinique, saw consistent podium finishes across multiple age categories.

Stephen Broadbelt, president of Cayman Aquatics, attributed the success to the discipline and competitive spirit of the young athletes. He noted that emerging as the highest-ranking team in the region while contending with the absence of a 50-metre pool highlights the effectiveness of their current training programme. This year’s results are viewed by the organisation as a foundation for future development, marking a clear upward trajectory for the sport in the Cayman Islands.
