Nvidia Boosts H-1B Hiring as Tech Giants Retreat

While industry peers like Google and Amazon slash international recruitment, Nvidia is aggressively expanding its global talent pool. Federal filings reveal the chipmaker secured certification for approximately 1,200 H-1B roles in the first half of fiscal 2026, marking a sharp increase in its pursuit of specialized AI expertise.

Nvidia's commitment to foreign hiring contrasts with a broader tech industry slowdown. Where other major firms have significantly reduced visa sponsorships, Nvidia continues to invest heavily to secure its position in the AI race. CEO Jensen Huang, himself an immigrant, has frequently characterized such talent as vital to the company’s long-term mission.

Data from federal H-1B filings provides a rare glimpse into the base salaries offered for these competitive roles, excluding the lucrative equity packages that often define total compensation at the company. Compensation for specialized technical staff is substantial: principal systems software engineers can earn base salaries exceeding $430,000, while top-tier AI algorithm engineers command up to $471,500. Leadership roles are similarly well-funded, with architecture directors reaching base pay ceilings near $488,750.

These figures underscore the premium Nvidia places on maintaining its hardware and software dominance. By offering base salaries that often start well into the six-figure range even for entry-level engineering positions, the company remains a top destination for researchers and developers despite the tightening landscape for international tech workers.
