Cayman Retains Alexandra Horner Memorial Trophy

Trailing after a lopsided opening defeat, the Cayman Islands national field hockey team clawed back to secure a 5-3 victory over Jamaica. The win at the Cayman International School on 23 May allowed the hosts to successfully defend the Alexandra Horner Memorial Trophy in a high-stakes regional showdown.

Jamaica initially dominated the Hockey Fest, opening the weekend with a clinical 3-0 performance fueled by two goals from Oshane Bean and a strike from Dale Fearon. Cayman struggled to counter the visitors' disciplined defensive structure during that first encounter, but the momentum shifted dramatically when the teams returned for the trophy match.

Cayman carried a narrow 2-1 lead into the halftime break before the game erupted into an offensive display. Liam Conradie, Jai Kiran, and captain Mike Hanley each found the net, while Erin Carruthers added a crucial brace to seal the result. Despite two second-half goals from George McGlashen and another from Fearon, Jamaica could not overcome the deficit. Following the match, Hanley credited his squad's patience under pressure, noting that the team relied on their tactical structure to hold off the visitors. The competition, which honors the late Alexandra Horner, continues to serve as a cornerstone of regional hockey, fostering ties between the two nations through more than 15 years of rivalry.
