Gavin Andresen
Gavin Andresen is a software developer and entrepreneur who is best known for his involvement with Bitcoin. He is based in Amherst, Massachusetts. Andresen began his career as a developer of 3D graphics and virtual reality software. In 2010, he became interested in Bitcoin and began developing products for the Bitcoin market. He was declared by Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, as the lead developer of the reference implementation for Bitcoin client software after Nakamoto announced his departure in 2011.
In 2012, Andresen founded the Bitcoin Foundation, a non-profit organization that aimed to support and nurture the development of the Bitcoin currency. The foundation promoted the use of Bitcoin for charitable causes and advocated for its acceptance as a legitimate form of payment. By 2014, Andresen had left his software development role to concentrate on his work with the foundation. In addition to his work with Bitcoin, Andresen has been involved in other technology-related ventures, including a virtual reality startup.
