Tayfun Ugur

Tayfun Ugur is a renowned Turkish business executive and entrepreneur with a diverse background in engineering, management, and strategic planning. Born in Turkey, he pursued his higher education in the United Kingdom, graduating from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology with a B.Sc. degree in Electronics Engineering, followed by an M.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering. He later obtained an MBA degree from Istanbul University Institute of Business Economics.

Ugur's professional journey began in 1976 at Manchester University, where he served as a teaching assistant and project engineer. During this time, he also worked as a technical consultant for Techward Co. in Birmingham and as a research and development engineer for the UK Department of Industry. Upon returning to Turkey in 1981, he held positions in sales and marketing at AEG Genel Elektrik and worked as a finance manager at Penta Foreign Trade.

In 1989, Ugur played a pivotal role in establishing Hewlett Packard's operations in Turkey, serving as the country managing director. He later moved to France, where he held management positions in worldwide strategic planning and business development, as well as customer support at the personal computer division of HP. Returning to Turkey, he served as the country general manager for Cisco and Sonera Zed and held the position of Vice President for Strategic Planning at Koc Information Technologies Group.

In 2005, Ugur assumed the role of the country managing director for BT (British Telecom) in Turkey and later became the regional director for Eastern Mediterranean countries. Since 2012, he has focused on company building, leveraging his extensive network of resources in Turkey and internationally to support start-ups and SME turnarounds in the ICT industry. U?ur actively participates as an entrepreneurship mentor in various organizations and educational institutions, including UNICEF, Seedstars, Endeavor, Founder Institute, Istanbul Technical University, and Y?ld?z Technical University.

Furthermore, Ugur contributes to the business community as a board member ofthe British Chamber of Commerce in Turkey (BCCT), where he oversees technology-related matters. He is also a founding member of the Turkish Informatics Foundation (TBV) and the Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation (TESEV). Additionally, U?ur extends his expertise to mature companies, assisting them in digital transformation initiatives to enhance operational effectiveness, gain a competitive advantage, and align their strategies and business models with new technologies.
