Michael Robbins

Michael Robbins, a Columbia University professor, imparts his expertise in quantitative investing, focusing on areas like Global Macroeconomic Tactical Asset Allocation (GTAA) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Investing. Embarking from a background in nuclear physics at RTII, Robbins transitioned to electronic warfare at a subsidiary of Northrop, subsequently becoming a proprietary trader at Oppenheimer/CIBC, where he managed portfolios worth $350 billion, achieving noteworthy profits and a flawless record of no loss-bearing years.

His journey led him to Washington Mutual's treasury department, where he managed prime loans and derivatives portfolios. Later, he ventured into ECR Capital Management, a hedge fund. He ascended to the role of Chief Investment Risk Officer at Utah Retirement Systems, overseeing assets totaling $16 billion. Returning to ECR as Chief Investment Officer, he advised senior management at National Australia Bank, contributing insights into asset management and risk analysis, extending his guidance to encompass large family offices, major banks, and other financial institutions.

Joining Spruce Investments as Chief Investment Officer, Robbins managed substantial funds, leading to the nomination of Spruce for Best Global Equity Fund and Best Global Macro Fund. His expertise drew him to Bleakly Financial Group, where he assumed the role of Chief Investment Officer, overseeing double the assets he managed at Spruce. Later, he took the helm as Chief Investment Officer for FNB (FirstRand), the largest bank in the African continent, serving 8.5 million clients.
