Feryal Clark

Honourable Ms. Feryal Clarkis theUK Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for AI and Digital Governmentat theDepartment for Science, Innovation and Technology, a role she has held since July 2024 under Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

She has representedEnfield Northas aMember of Parliamentsince 2019, becoming theLabour Party’s first Kurdish MP. She has also served asShadow Minister for Health,Shadow Minister for Primary Care and Patient Safety,Shadow Minister for Crime Reduction, andOpposition Whip.

As a minister, Clark has been at the forefront of shaping UK policy on AI, digital identity, and data governance. She has delivered speeches at high-profile events such as theAI UK conferencehosted by theAlan Turing Instituteand visited leading institutions likeImperial College Londonand theUniversity of Cambridgeto witness the latest advancements in AI research. Her priorities include developing frameworks for safe and effective AI governance and ensuring that these technologies benefit public services, healthcare, education, and infrastructure.

She representedBrownswood wardand, later,Hoxton East & Shoreditch. She was also Vice-Chair ofLondon Councils’ Transport and Environment Committeeand theNorth London Waste Authorityand a member of the London Waste and Recycling Board.

Before her ministerial role, Clark had a successful career in local government. She served asDeputy Mayor of Hackneyand held various cabinet roles, including overseeing health, social care, and sustainability. During her tenure, she led campaigns such as securing abanking hubforHertford Roadand restoring full-time hours atChase Farm’s Urgent Treatment Centre. She has supported over18,000 residentswith casework during her time as MP and secured increased police presence in Enfield North.

Clark holds adegree in Biomedical SciencefromKingston Universityand aMaster’s degree in Bioinformaticsfrom theUniversity of Exeter. She worked for six years in theNHS, specialising inpathology, before entering national politics.
