Fred Swaniker
Fred Swaniker is a Ghanaian serial entrepreneur and leadership development expert. He is the founder and CEO of the African Leadership Group, which includes organisations such as African Leadership Academy, African Leadership University, ALX, and The Room.
His mission is to transform Africa by developing 3 million ethical, entrepreneurial leaders by 2035. Through these initiatives, Fred aims to catalyse a new generation of leaders across Africa. The African Leadership Academy, for instance, prepares students for leadership roles while connecting them to universities worldwide.
Fred's passion for leadership development was influenced by his early experiences, including his work as the headmaster of a secondary school founded by his mother. He believes that good leadership is the key to Africa’s progress. He co-founded several ventures, including Synexa Life Sciences, a biotechnology company, and Terra Education, a global education firm that provides leadership training.
Fred Swaniker has been recognised globally for his contributions to leadership development. He was named one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People in the World in 2019 and was listed by Forbes as one of Africa’s top young power men in 2011. He was also recognised as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and received multiple honorary doctorates from institutions like Middlebury College, Nelson Mandela University, and Macalester College.
Fred holds an MBA fromStanford University, where he was named an Arjay Miller Scholar. He has lived and worked in over ten African countries and is dedicated to transforming the African continent by fostering leadership, education, and innovation. Through his leadership initiatives, Fred Swaniker is creating a sustainable and influential leadership pipeline for Africa’s future.
