Inside Uber's Pay Scales for Engineers and Product Managers

Uber filed applications for 364 H-1B visas during the first half of the 2026 fiscal year, a sharp decline from the 497 requests submitted during the same period last year. These labor department disclosures offer a rare window into the company's compensation structure for technical roles amid a broader industry hiring slowdown.

The company’s latest visa applications reflect a cautious approach to recruitment as it shifts focus toward artificial intelligence. CEO Dara Khosrowshahi noted earlier this year that AI integration has already prompted a reduction in hiring across specific divisions, with remaining staff facing higher productivity expectations. This adjustment coincides with new fee structures for the H-1B program, which have influenced how major tech firms manage their foreign workforce.

Compensation for these roles varies significantly based on seniority and function. At the top of the pay scale, senior engineering directors and managers can command salaries reaching $410,000. For core technical positions, a Senior Staff Engineer role offers between $275,800 and $297,000, while product management leads can earn up to $260,000. On the lower end of the disclosed spectrum, entry-level operations and administrative roles start near $94,331. With a global workforce of approximately 34,000 employees, these figures provide a snapshot of the competitive landscape for talent as Uber balances its aggressive AI investment with a more disciplined headcount strategy.
