The Mumbai-based lender acknowledged the unauthorized access on Monday, confirming that it has initiated a forensic investigation alongside relevant authorities. While the bank maintains that its core systems remain untouched and secure, the leaked cache includes a sprawling array of customer identification documents, personal loan papers, and private audit files.
Cybersecurity researcher Srikanth L, who identified the data, noted that the information appeared online Saturday night. The incident follows a pattern of recent high-profile breaches in India, including a June cyberattack on Tata Electronics that exposed proprietary design documents for Apple and Tesla. With the Reserve Bank of India and the national cybersecurity agency CERT-In yet to provide formal comment, the full scope of the exposure remains under assessment.
