JPMorgan targets $750 billion housing investment by 2035

JPMorgan Chase plans to deploy $750 billion toward the U.S. housing market by 2035, aiming to alleviate supply shortages and boost homeownership rates. This capital injection seeks to counter a stagnant market currently defined by high borrowing costs and prohibitive home prices that have sidelined millions of potential buyers.

The commitment falls under the bank’s American Dream Initiative, a broader strategy designed to stimulate local economic growth through expanded small-business lending and increased access to healthcare services. To achieve these housing goals, the firm intends to grow its mortgage lending volume by more than 40 percent, with a specific target of financing homes for over 500,000 customers.

Michelle Herrick, head of commercial real estate at JPMorgan, noted that a resilient housing market remains a fundamental driver for broader economic opportunity. By prioritizing liquidity for residential buyers, the bank is attempting to navigate a landscape where elevated interest rates have historically dampened activity for both first-time buyers and existing homeowners.
