Leaving the Corporate Fashion World for Mompreneurship

After a decade in the high-stakes New York fashion industry, Seri Kertzner reached a breaking point in 2009. The birth of her first son shifted her priorities, leading her to trade a career at J.Crew for the unpredictable, creative freedom of launching her own event-planning brand, Little Miss Party.

Kertzner’s transition began with an intense internal conflict. Despite holding a prestigious role in production, she found herself weeping at her desk daily, struggling with the emotional toll of being separated from her infant. Rather than viewing the shift as a retreat, she leaned into her background as a social organizer, building a business that allowed her to integrate motherhood with professional ambition.

Her venture expanded into a suite of companies, including The Social Society and Rev New York. When she relocated her family to Florida, she successfully decentralized her operations, empowering her team to handle New York events while she pivoted toward new concepts in Ponte Vedra Beach. This autonomy has allowed her to prioritize her children’s milestones, such as attending last-minute hockey tournaments, over the rigid constraints of a corporate calendar. While she acknowledges that the path of the 'mompreneur' is rarely seamless, she maintains that the ability to define her own schedule remains the most significant achievement of her career.
