From One Car to a Fleet: A Family’s Path to Six-Figure Rental Success

What began as a low-risk experiment with a single Nissan Infiniti in 2020 has transformed into a thriving 63-car enterprise for Gerardo Aletti and Sofia Escarra. The Venezuelan immigrants now generate half a million dollars annually by leveraging the Turo platform to serve Miami's diverse travel market.

The couple’s transition from a side gig to a full-time family operation required more than just fleet expansion. By 2023, the duo moved beyond driveway rentals, securing a dedicated office and parking facility to manage their growing inventory. They recruited their son, daughter, and niece to handle the daily logistics, ranging from vehicle maintenance to customer service. Their background in the transportation industry allowed them to strategically rotate their fleet between luxury models, fuel-efficient sedans, and SUVs based on fluctuating demand at the Miami and Fort Lauderdale airports.

Strategic linguistic targeting has played a pivotal role in their growth, with Spanish-speaking travelers accounting for 30% of their bookings. This niche focus proved particularly lucrative ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup matches held in Miami, as Turo expanded its language accessibility. While the family relies heavily on the platform's native discovery tools for traffic, they emphasize that success hinges on a combination of mechanical expertise and high-touch customer service. Despite occasional challenges, such as dealing with difficult renters, the Alettis view the model as highly scalable for those who treat it as a professional enterprise rather than a passive hobby.
