The Ministry of Health, Environment and Sustainability recommends that all travellers verify their immunization status before the tournament begins on 11 June. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Hilary Wolf emphasized that staying current with vaccinations remains the most effective defense against infectious diseases that thrive in crowded venues. Beyond viral threats, the advisory highlights the persistent danger of mosquito-borne illnesses such as dengue, Zika, and chikungunya, advising the use of DEET-based repellents and protective clothing.
Health officials also provided guidance on mitigating secondary risks, including foodborne pathogens, respiratory infections, and heat-related exhaustion. Dr. Samuel Williams-Rodriguez noted that returning residents act as the primary line of defense in protecting the islands from imported infections. He urged anyone developing symptoms like fever, rash, or respiratory distress following the tournament to seek immediate medical attention and disclose their travel history, allowing authorities to respond rapidly to potential outbreaks.
