Christian Decker
Christian Deckeris a Bitcoin enthusiast who got involved in the Bitcoin community in 2009, shortly after the white paper was released. He participated in early discussions on Bitcoin Talk and became friends with other enthusiasts in Switzerland. In 2011, they had their first meetup in Zurich with only four people, but two of them are now leading successful companies in the United States.
Christian's background in distributed computing made himinterested in Bitcoin, and he eventually decided to pursue a PhD on the topic. His research at ETH Zurich focused on improving the understanding of the underlying consensus mechanisms and enabling the network to scale with increasing demands. This resulted in the world's first PhD dissertation about Bitcoin and the creation of several protocols, including PeerCensus and Duplex Micropayment Channels.
As a Bitcoin core developer at Blockstream, Christian continues to work on improvingthe scalability and security of the network. He has also been involved in several projects that demonstrate the real-world use of Bitcoin, such as a vending machine that accepts Bitcoin payments for chocolate bars and a Bluetooth-based hardware wallet.
